John H. Knelson, MD

1934-2008

Dr. Knelson, " Dr. K," moved to Morehead City in 1978. He was the founder of Carteret Clinic for Adolescents and Children.The doors of the clinic opened July 5, 1978. It was the first pediatric practice in Morehead City. The clinic, his legacy to the area, served the needs of the children in the county for 30 years under his direction. Inspired and comforted by an absolute faith in God, Dr. K. had a passion for his patients and a zeal for helping the people of Rwanda. He was a member of All Saints Anglican Church, serving on the vestry and also an active participant of the Anglican Mission in America, Province of Rwanda. He was a founding member of Carteret Christian Academy, sat on the board of directors and taught French. He and his wife Brenda Strother Knelson were also medical missionaries to Rwanda in 2001, 2003 and 2004.
